After spending real time behind the wheel of both trucks, I immediately felt a difference in how they deliver power. The Santa Cruz responds quickly off the line and remains composed as speeds increase. Driving through Cuyahoga Falls and onto surrounding highways, the available turbocharged engine made passing and merging noticeably easier. With up to 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, the Santa Cruz feels eager and capable whether cruising or carrying extra weight.
The Maverick handles basic driving well, but it is clearly tuned more toward light-duty efficiency. The Santa Cruz feels more planted and controlled, especially at highway speeds and when accelerating under load.
Santa Cruz performance highlights include:
- Standard 2.5L four-cylinder engine producing 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque
- Available 2.5L turbocharged engine producing 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque
- 8-speed automatic transmission
- Available All-Wheel Drive
- Towing capacity up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped
