Hyundai Tucson Named Top Small SUV in J.D. Power Study

It was announced recently that the Hyundai Tucson SUV was the highest-ranked small SUV in the J.D. Power 2018 U.S. Initial Quality Study, helping the automaker move up to a top spot among all manufacturers when it comes to owners reporting problems with their new vehicle.

Hyundai ranks second among all non-premium brands, and third overall, marking it one of the most-improved automakers when compared to the company's 2017 results in the same study. For 2018, Hyundai owners reported 14 fewer problems per 100 vehicles than they did in 2017.

J.D. Power determines initial quality by the number of problems-per-100-vehicles that owners experience during the first 90 days of ownership. A lower score indicated higher quality, and Hyundai bested the industry average by 19 fewer reported problems per 100 vehicles. More than 75,000 respondents took part in the survey, which encompassed 233 questions separated into eight categories.

Omar Rivera, Director, Quality and Service Engineering, Hyundai Motor America, was quoted in a Hyundai press release as declaring, "Customers of the Hyundai brand can feel confident that they are selecting a new vehicle that has one of the best initial and long-term quality rankings in the entire automotive industry. J.D. Power’s IQS is the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality, and our 2018 ranking is a result of an enterprise-wide commitment to producing vehicles of the highest quality and educating customers on how to use their car’s technologies and features."
